For people that may take longer to tell you their requirements or to understand the response given, the range of auxiliary aids or service which it might be reasonable to provide to ensure that services are accessible might include one or more of the following:

  • individual assistance
  • written information (such as a leaflet or guide)
  • a facility for taking and exchanging written notes
  • additional time
  • use of quiet rooms for meetings
  • home visits
  • offer to tape a conversation so that the person can consider it later and keep a record
  • provide information in pictograms to aid communication

Where can I find out more information about learning disabilities?

The Oxfordshire Ridgeway Partnership is a specialist organisation providing a range of health care and social support services for people who have a learning disability and for their families or carers.
