Disability Grants

How do I apply for a Disabled Facilities Grant?

First you should contact your GP to arrange an appointment with the Occupational Therapist. The Occupational Therapist will then assess your needs. Your Occupational Therapist will send us the referral of work to be carried out. You may be eligible for grant assistance however this grant is subject to a means test. The maximum amount available for such a grant is £25,000.

Disabled Facilities Grants are available for the following:

  1. To provide or improve access to the bedroom, kitchen, toilet, washbasin and bath (and/or shower) facilities; for example by installing a stair lift or providing a downstairs bathroom.
  2. To ensure the safety of the disabled person and other occupants. For example, by providing a specially adapted room in which it would be safe to leave a disabled person unattended or improved lighting to ensure better visibility; or to make access easier to the living room.
  3. To facilitate entering and exiting of the dwelling. For example by widening doors and installing ramps.
  4. To improve or provide a heating system in a home which is suitable to the needs of the disabled person.
