CANAcT - Prevention, Enforcement and SupportWhat is CANAcT?CANAcT stands for Crime and Nuisance Action Team What does CANAct do?CANAcT mainly tackles community based anti-social behaviour. Though they also do other things too. They have been effectively doing this since being established in November 2001. PreventionTo prevent anti-social behaviour CANAct works with schools, the Youth Service and the Youth Offending teams. It has alsoworked with informal groups of young people and the Junior Wardens. CANAcT helped develop the Positive Activities for Young people programme, funded by the Youth Offendign Team (YOT). EnforcementCANAcT has achieved successes in enforcement, including Anti-Social Behaviour Orders (ASBOs), Acceptable Behaviour Contracts (ABCs), and has contributed to possession actions in many cases. We recognise that enforcement action is not always the best course of action, and that other solutions, through early intervention, are usually the most effective. Witness SupportCANAcT recognises that supporting vulnerable witnesses is its core task. Anti-social behaviour destroys people's confidence. It is CANAcT's duty to give the confidence back, by being available on call for witnesses 24 hours a day, and by supporting them at every stage.
