Arts grants

What is the Arts Development Fund?

The Arts Development Fund has been set up to provide small-scale project grants for the arts, primarily to provide matching funding for applications to other funding bodies, including Awards for All and Arts Council England.

The application and information sheet can be downloaded below:

Arts Fund Application Form 08-09 (PDF)

Grants awarded from this fund will be conditional on the success of the project's other funding applications. Applications are assessed three times a year, and the maximum single award is £750.

Who can apply for a grant?

Organisations can apply for a grant if:

  • they are 'not-for-profit'
  • they have a bank or building society account
  • they have an adopted constitution or set of rules
  • they have not already received support from the fund in the current financial year

Organisations already in receipt of other Oxford City Council funding may be considered if the project is a significant development or innovation on their existing work. Details should be included with the application.

Individual artists wishing to run projects that meet the fund criteria can apply if:

  • they can provide evidence that they have the necessary skills to complete the project
  • they can provide evidence of support from any partner organisations, communities or individuals that they intend to work with
  • they have not already received support from the fund in the current financial year

What projects are eligible?

  • relate to Oxford people
  • seek no more than 50% of the total project cost
  • (typically no more than 20%)
  • not be seeking funding retrospectively

How is the application assessed?

The project will be assessed against the following criteria:

  • benefit to an Oxford community or communities
  • development of new audiences and/or participants
  • is of an innovative or developmental nature
  • increases opportunities for Oxford based artists or performers

When can I apply?

Closing dates for applications for 2008/09 will appear here shortly.

We aim to inform all applicants of our decisions within four weeks of the closing date.

The grant must be spent within a year of being awarded.

All applicants are recommended to speak with Oxford City Council Arts Department before completing the application. Contact details can be found on the right of this page.
