Street TradingThere are controls on Street Trading in Central Oxford in an effort to improve the environment.
We have identified street trading sites that provide the best service to customers and do not interfere with traffic. The sites are divided into weekly and annual let sites. This includes sites on the streets and the pavements. The number of pavement locations is currently restricted to 11. In addition to that there are two weekly let sites at Bonn Square and Cornmarket Street. The weekly let sites run are run on a rota system. The rota is currently full and no new additions to it are envisaged, although enquiries are welcome. There are 15 sites for the sale of hot food. Trading is allowed between 6.30pm and 3.00am. All these sites are currently occupied by traders. The businesses on these sites require a Premises Licence. An application form can be obtained from the Licensing Authority. A Street Trading Consent is not required for trading outside of the City Centre, except in those areas already designated. Street Trading Enforcement is managed by The Environmental Health Department. The Enforcement Officer is responsible for street trading applications and fees for weekly and annual let sites, maintaining standards with traders, investigating illegal street trading, including illegal peddling and the unauthorised distribution of printed matter on designated land (leafleting).
