St. Giles' Fair

Thousand of people to flock to the centre of Oxford for the annual St Giles' Fair which takes place in September each year.

Fair-goers can look forward to all the traditional fun fair rides and amusements like a coconut shy, helter skelter, carousels, dodgems and waltzers combined with some exciting up-to-date, white-knuckle rides.

St. Giles' fair is a great Oxford tradition that has always moved with the times. The fair is one of the most prestigious in the country.

The fair dates back to 1625 when it was a parish festival to celebrate the feast of the patron saint, St. Giles. In the 18th century it was a toy fair, then in the 19th century it was a general children's fair.
