Families are invited to join the new Lord Mayor, Councillor Alan Armitage at his Jubilee celebration on Monday 4 June 2012 in Gloucester Green, Oxford. Entry is free.
Councillor Armitage will be joined by the new Deputy Lord Mayor, Councillor Mohammed Abbasi, who will be the first Pakistani born civic holder for Oxford and the new Sheriff of Oxford, Councillor Dee Sinclair.
There will be a re-enactment of the Mayor Making process at Gloucester Green followed by a 1950s Now and Then party.
The celebration, from midday until 6pm, will feature themed performances reflecting the 1950s as well as multi-cultural Oxford today.
There will be street performers, music groups and musicians, dance performances, food stalls, and workshop tents.
Performers from Oxford-based theatre company UnderConstruction, will be recreating sports and competitions from English celebrations of the past, including sports that didn't quite make it in to the popular imagination.
You can join them in knobbly knee competitions, blind boxing, and broom hockey, or maybe you'd even like to come in your own best decorated hat, bike or buggy?! No seriousness allowed here at The Bureau of Silly Games for it's definitely the taking part that counts!
