Oxford's Olympic Legacy

Runners

As part of the prestigious London 2012 Games, here in Oxford we are ensuring that we contribute to the 'Olympic Legacy' through a variety of Olympic inspired activities and opportunities before, during and after the games.

We are working hard with key partners to develop an Olympic legacy for Oxford. In addition to the exciting Torch Relay that is coming to the city, some of key projects we are working on include:

  • New developments such as the Community Football and Netball Arena and adiZone at Court Place Farm, Barton Pavilion and a new Astro Turf pitch at Banbury Road North. Visit our Leisure Facility Developments page for more information about these facilities.
  • Delivery of a new competition standard swimming pool in Blackbird Leys, due for completion in 2013.
  • Supporting Fusion Lifestyle (our leisure provider) to deliver their 2012 Games Plan (available to download below).
  • Hosting and supporting key events such as the School Games, National School Sports Week, Oxford Family Sports Day, Sport Relief Mile 2012, Halfords Tour Series, World Masters Hockey event and the Oxford Half Marathon. For more information take a look at our events calendar.
  • Delivery of key sporting projects, including GO Active, Active Women and the recently 'Street Mark' accredited Street Sports programme.
  • Continuing to increase participation in sport across the city.
  • Promoting and supporting our local clubs and sports people.
  • Creating volunteering opportunities through Sportmakers.

We believe that the legacy comes from memories of the event and we are keen to create our own memories, right here in the heart of Oxford.
