A 48-year-old man has been given a 12 month Community Order of 120 hours unpaid work after pleading guilty to benefit fraud after dishonestly claiming over £8,800.

Yawahab Badmus was charged with dishonestly obtaining Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit between July 2010 and September 2012 and with dishonestly trying to obtain Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit between September 2012 and March 2013.

Yawahab Badmus, of Hockmore Tower, Cowley, Oxford, was charged with failing to declare an increase in earnings between July 2010 and September 2012 and making false representations between September 2012 and March 2013.

He stole a total of £8,817.67 and was sentenced at Oxford Magistrates' Court on Monday 7 July 2014 after earlier pleading guilty at Oxford Magistrates Court on 2 June 2014.

He was sentenced to a 12 month Community Order as well as being ordered to pay £120 costs. He will have to pay back the overpaid benefit to Oxford City Council.
