We want to help connect volunteers to community and voluntary groups across the city so Oxford City Council's Communities and Neighbourhoods Team will be hosting a Volunteering Fair.
Volunteering can offer a number of benefits to individuals and communities across Oxford. From making the most of community group's limited resources, to developing an individuals CV to improve prospects for training and employment, a small commitment can often make a big difference.
The Volunteering Fair takes place on Tuesday 27 March 2012 at Oxford's Town Hall from 3pm until 6pm.
Individuals and community groups are invited to attend and find out how volunteering can work for them.
Councillor Antonia Bance, Board Member for Stronger Communities, says: "These events are fantastic for people to get involved and show them how volunteering can benefit the community they live in.
"There should be a cross section of groups at the event to offer help and advice."
The event will also promote Oxford City Council's staff volunteering policy, which supports staff who volunteer with groups and projects that help meet the Council’s objectives.
At the fair, groups can showcase their current work, promote vacancies for volunteers and be signposted to funding and other services.
Those interested in volunteering can meet community and voluntary groups that work across Oxford’s communities and find out how their skills can contribute to this work, making a positive difference to the lives of Oxford’s residents.
Potential volunteers, both staff and members of the public, are advised to think about their skills and interests to help connect people to the right opportunities.
The fair is open to community and voluntary groups across the city and there is no cost to attend. Space is limited, so groups are advised to book their stall as soon as possible by contacting the Communities and Neighbourhoods team on 01865 252828 or at email@example.com. Individuals do not need to book.
