Free Swimming Lessons for the over 50s
Take to the water and get fit, by signing up to eight weeks worth of free swimming lessons in one of Oxford's pools.
Oxford City Council in partnership with Fusion Lifestyle have been successful in securing funding from the Age UK, Fit as a Fiddle programme to hold a series of swimming lessons across Oxford Leisure Centres, for people aged 50 and over.
The lessons are free of charge and are suitable for those who want to learn how to swim or improve their water confidence.
Participants must be 50 years and over and are required to sign up to an eight week block of sessions at one of the following leisure centres:
Ferry Leisure Centre
Every Tuesday at 1.30 - 2.15pm, starting Tuesday 15 March 2011
Barton Leisure Centre
Every Thursday at 1.00 - 1.45 pm, starting Thursday 17 March 2011

Every Friday at 10.00 - 10.45am, starting Friday 18 March 2011
There will be a break from the lessons during Easter, week commencing Monday 18 - Sunday 24 April 2011.
In addition to the free swimming lessons, free refreshments will be provided after the lessons to give you the chance to speak with the swimming instructor and get to know people out of the water.
Councillor Mark Lygo, Board Member for Sport, Play & School Liaison, says: "These lessons are a fantastic opportunity for people aged 50 and over in the city to get out, meet new people and have fun, all for free.
"While learning to swim or improving water confidence will be the main goal, people will also be enhancing their health and well-being at the same time.
"I really do hope to see as many people as possible signed up to these free sessions."
Places are limited on each course of lessons, so please book early to avoid disappointment.
