Street Sports programme awarded the Street Mark accreditation
Oxford City Council's Street Sports programme has been awarded the Street Mark accreditation.
The national accreditation quality assures the provision of street sport activities by embedding minimum standards for community sport.
The accreditation means that Street Sports joins the Street Games network of organisations that delivers sporting opportunities to young people in disadvantaged communities in England and Wales.
StreetGames projects provide stronger and safer communities, encourage social action and volunteering and improve health and wellbeing. Street Games categorises these benefits as 'sport for good'.
To achieve the accreditation the Council's Sports Development Team were required to demonstrate the quality of delivery of Street Sports including training for staff, child protection and other important procedures.

Summer 2011 3v3 Basketball League
Oxford City Council, working in partnership with Oxford Hoops Basketball Club, England Basketball and GO Active, added to its successful Summer Street Sports programme with a 3v3 Basketball league.
Running at the Holloway, Alexander Courts, Botley and Ridgefield Multi Use Games Areas (which are also known as Street Sports cages) the league attracted over 90 players who played regularly over the 12 week period.
The project was also very successful for the Oxford Hoops with over 50 new players signing for the club. This includes a number of players that have fed into the National League team.
