Shotover Country Park

 Shotover Park

Shotover Country Park offers everyone a chance to enjoy a place of beauty and history, right on the edge of Oxford.
It is open all year round and is free of charge.

How do I get there?

It is easy to get to Shotover, which is located to the east of the City.
A map is availbale from the right hand menu.

  • By car, follow directions and park in the free car park
  • By bus take the No.10 Stagecoach bus and get off at the Corner House Pub, at the end of Slade Road. Walk down Horspath Driftway and cross the Eastern Bypass at the pelican crossing.

Park features

  • 117 hectares (289 acres)
  • spectacular views from the top across south Oxfordshire
  • intimate mosaic of hiden valleys and varied landscapes
  • diverse habitats and a haven for wildlife
  • disabled access and paths (from Brasenose Farm entrance)

What can I do there?

Make the most of the countryside on your doorstep

  • have a picnic
  • take a leisurely stroll
  • follow one of our trails
  • walk the dog
  • go jogging
  • go horse riding or cycling along the bridleway
  • go orienteering
  • play in the sandpit

Shotover Country Park is a popular venue for a range of different events including:

  • orienteering competitions
  • sponsored walks

Free Nordic Walking for over 50's

If you are over 50 you can qualify for a FREE 8-week Nordic Walking course starting this Autumn.

GO Active has accessed funding to provide a fully trained Nordic Walking instructor and sets of walking poles for all participants.

Nordic Walking is a fantastic and social way to:

  • stay fit and healthy
  • burn up to 46% more calories than normal walking
  • tone your upper body as well as your legs
  • take pressure off hip and knee joints when using the poles

Our ancient woods, flowery meadows, marshes, ponds and bracken-covered slopes support a wealth of wildlife:

  • Bettony and Saw Wort

  • Sheep's Sorrel
  • White Admiral butterflies

  • Blackbirds, Wrens and Song Thrushes

  • Muntjac and Roe Deer

Countryside Rangers
