Leisure Facility Developments
Oxford City Council is working on a number of developments to improve the sporting provision and opportunities in the City. It is hoped that these facilities will inspire the residents of Oxford and visitors to take part in sport and recreation and maybe even take up a new sport, creating a sporting legacy that goes beyond the London 2012 games.
Recently Completed Developments

adiZone
Oxford has its very own taste of London 2012, thanks to the
installation of an adiZone - a giant multi-sport outdoor gym venue which
aims to inspire the local community to get involved in sport.
adiZones,
designed and developed by adidas, Official Sportswear Partner of the
London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, are permanent installations
measuring 625sq metres and boast sporting facilities inspired by Olympic
and Paralympic sports that include a basketball, football and tennis
area, a climbing wall, an outdoor gym and an open area to encourage
dance, aerobics and gymnastics.
Free to use, and open 365 days a
year, the adiZone in Oxford has been installed in Court Place Farm,
opposite Oxsrad Sports Centre. The adiZone serves local communities
across Oxford as a space where young people can meet socially whilst
being encouraged to play sports. Local coaches and sports club
organisers will be invited to attend the site, to spot talent and
encourage young people to join local clubs and sporting organisations.

Artificial turf pitch at Banbury Road North
Oxford City
Council supported the development of a new floodlit artificial turf
pitch at Banbury Road North. The site is home to the
Oxford Hawks
Hockey Club and the new development will enable a
greater level of hockey to be played by the club.
In addition to
the development of the Astroturf, the site benefited from two new hard
tennis courts, which compliment the existing tennis facilities on the site,
which is home to
North Oxford Lawn Tennis Club.

Barton Pavilion
The outdated pavilion at Barton Recreation Ground
has been replaced by a fit for purpose facility that will benefit the
whole community.
The Pavilion that was finished on schedule and a
long standing project for the council comprises of changing rooms,
toilets, a bar, and a large community social room. The facility has
given residents not only a place to play football but also a social and
community venue which can cater for all types of activity.

The Council are now looking at renewing and updating its pavilion provision across the City, to ensure that they are fit for purpose and accessible.

The Community Arena - A Football and Netball facility development
Oxford City Council has supported Oxford City Football Club to develop a Third Generation, commonly known as a 3G pitch at Court Place Farm, Marston.
Third Generation or 3G pitches as they are known, represent a new development in synthetic turf. The pitch itself looks like natural grass with similar playing characteristics, non-abrasive and can be used with rubber studs.
The open structure gives a firmer grip and provides for better ball control. Pushing off, running, stopping or tackling are all possible without additional risk of injury. This thanks to the mix of quartz sand and rubber granules layered into the pitch, which provide effective protection and added shock absorption.

The new development boasts an artificial turf pitch with floodlights, offering a year round, all weather facility for football. In addition to the 3G pitch, 6 netball courts are available on site, which provides the city with its first very own dedicated netball courts.
Whilst the £2 million development will benefit Oxford City Football Club and the City's netball clubs, the new sports facilities will also be accessible by the community, creating enhanced sporting opportunities in to the City residents and wider.
The development was completed in November 2011.
