We have surveyed all the flats sites in the city in order to find ways to convert each site onto the alternate weekly collection scheme offered to householders. Before any containers are delivered we consult flat management agents. They need to agree to the changes and the terms and conditions of use of the containers. We can provide individual recycling boxes and bags to blocks that have 4 flats or less and have their own front doors and operate an alternate weekly collection similar to the household service.
Flat sites of 5 or more will need to be 'converted' onto the alternative weekly scheme with onsite recycling facilities provided.
If you are in a flat with its own front door (to the outside/onto the street) then you will get the same bins as individual households:
For information on how to use these containers for your recycling and waste please see our What goes in each recycling container page.
Large blocks of flats will often have a communal bin store with containers for both landfill waste and recycling.
From 18 October 2010, you can use your recycling bins for all the same materials that go in the blue recycling bins that are used by householders. Visit our What goes in each recycling container page for full details. Please also look out for posters on the bin stores and stickers on your recycling bins.
Unfortunately we do not currently offer recycling of garden waste or food waste to these flat sites. If you do have any garden waste you can take this to Redbridge Waste Recycling Centre for recycling.
Some non-converted flats sites have refuse collections but no recycling facilities. These sites are entitled to one free fortnightly refuse collection. If you require weekly collections you need to contact your management agent to arrange this as there is a charge for this service. Alternatively you can request recycling containers through your management agents. There will be a one off charge for the purchase of the containers, and again, this will be paid for by the management agents.
We encourage you to please use the Bring Banks around Oxford or visit Redbridge Waste Recycling Centre to recycle your household rubbish.
If you have large items to dispose of you can use our Bulky Waste Collection Service. Please note that it you live in a privately owned House of Multiple Occupancy there may be a charge for bulky waste collections.
