Recycling, rubbish and waste

Excess Rubbish

Excess rubbish

Excess rubbish placed by the side or on top of your green wheelie bin, will not be collected. This is to encourage residents to recycle more and send less to landfill.

80% of your waste can be recycled or composted, so please make sure you use your recycling and food waste service fully. Do you know What goes into each container?

All your rubbish must fit in your green wheeled bin with the lid closed.

What is excess rubbish?

Excess rubbish is extra non-recyclable waste put out for collection next to or on top of your green wheelie bin.

It includes extra rubbish that does not fit in your bin, or larger items like fridges, furniture, or washing machines for which no special collection arrangements have been made.

  • Excess rubbish interferes with the proper waste collections process, which means it takes our crews longer to collect, is less safe, and costs more.
  • Excess rubbish is unsightly and damages the local environment.
  • Excess rubbish usually has not been fully sorted for recycling.
  • Every resident is required to make sure that the waste they produce is disposed of responsibly and in accordance with the law. Persistent offenders can be served with a Fixed Penalty Notice (£80). Please don't let it happen to you.

If I put out extra household waste will it be collected?

No. All rubbish must be contained in your green wheelie bin with the lid closed. We do not collect excess household waste. Please make sure that all your rubbish is separated for recycling as much as possible. If you have excess rubbish we recommend that you take this to a recycling centre.

If you regularly produce excess rubbish please contact us on 01865 249811 to discuss your needs.

What if I use lilac sacks instead of a green wheelie bin?

We provide all residents using lilac sacks with a six month supply.

For properties that have lilac sacks we will collect four sacks of domestic waste per property. This is the same as the capacity of a standard 240 litre wheeled bin.

If you regularly produce more than this amount or have run out of sacks before your next regular delivery contact us on 01865 249811.

What can I do to eliminate my excess rubbish?

80% of rubbish can be recycled or composted. Make sure you know know What goes into each container.

Disposable nappies can cause lots of rubbish. Using real nappies can save you money and help reduce what you throw away. You can even borrow a free trial pack. For more information visit the Oxfordshire County Council website.

There are many other ways to reduce your waste and even save money. Visit our Reducing Your Waste page for more information

I have a large family/live in a shared house and my wheelie bin is not big enough. What can I do?

Large households may be entitled to a larger blue recycling bin or a larger green wheelie bin, however households must be using both the recycling bins and food waste service before a large green wheeled bin will be issued. For more information please contact us on 01865 249811.

If I put out extra recyclable waste will it be collected?

Yes. If you have extra recyclable waste out it in a secure recyclable container e.g. cardboard box and put it by the side of your recycling boxes or bin on your collection day.

Large pieces of cardboard may be collapsed and put next to your blue recycling box or bin.

Please note that all glass should be put in your green box.

If you regularly have more recycling than will fit in your recycling containers, please visit the Additional Recycling Containers page for more information about ordering extra boxes, waste sacks or blue bins.

Where should I leave my bins and boxes for collection?

Your bins and boxes must be left at the boundary of your property by 7:00 am on your collection day. They should not be left out earlier than 6:00 pm the evening before your collection day. After collection the bin will be returned to the same place.

My rubbish or recycling was not collected; will you come back?

If have left out excess rubbish it will not be taken. Only your wheelie bin will have been emptied.

You can put this waste in your bin for your next regularly scheduled collection or take it to a recycling centre.

If we have missed your recycling or bin collection please Report It to us.
